After my trip from Thailand and Cambodia, I reached my last leg of my 2 weeks Asia trip. I took a Giant Ibis Bus from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City, the bus had stopped at Pham Ngu Lao Street, the backpackers street of Ho Chi Minh City.
Pham Ngu Lao Street is 10 mins away from ONO Saigon Hotel. I was quick to make my way to check into ONO Saigon Hotel. Interestingly, I was surprised to know that ONO which means One N Only, it is located in an alley along the main road and was family run. I had the honour to be hosted at the standard, the deluxe and the VIP room.
While walking towards the alley, I was happy and excited to see the ONO Saigon Hotel sign pointing me to the hotel. The check-in process was fast and seamless, I was quickly whisked into the standard room to place my stuff before heading out for beers with my friends.
The standard room and the deluxe room was simple and clean. The bed in the standard room reminds me of the Japanese Futon. After I unpacked and a quick shower, I head out to meet my friends for dinner and beer near Pham Ngu Lao Street.

Pham Ngu Lao Street, Backpacking street of Ho Chi Minh City
If you would like some quality sleep, I would suggest not staying at Pham Ngu Lao Street, as it is the street that never sleeps, and with clubs located a stone throw away, you would definitely have panda eyes every night if you are a light sleeper.
ONO Saigon Hotel does not provide any breakfast, but out of the hotel and on the street, you would be delighted and spoilt with choices from street vendors.
The VIP room has a round bed which was the first time I ever sleep in a round bed, the bed was comfortable and the area was quiet and peaceful. ONO is located near many important landmarks, which are walking distance away.
ONO Saigon Hotel is a 1-star family-run hotel located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, District 1. A 1-star hotel that makes you feel like home, it’s comfortable, quiet, and clean. The One N Only Saigon Hotel is a hidden gem, located near Saigon Square, Ben Thanh Market, Reunification Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Saigon Post Office, Saigon City Hall. Book directly from ONO Saigon Hotel!
Great looking property. We stayed near Pham Ngu Lao Street and I can attest to the noise level. I’m glad we were a couple streets over! Definitely a great area to explore the city though, and the ONO looks much nicer than the place we stayed at! Have to keep that in mind for next time…
Love that there’s a VIP room in a 1 star hotel 🙂 Got some other tips in here, like the street that nevers sleeps for my upcoming gtrip to Vietnam.
The VIP room looks pretty funky. How much was it a night? How many stars is the hotel?
Sounds like a great property! I would definitely stay here, thanks for sharing 🙂
This looks like a great place to stay and right there in the middle of the action. I usually try to keep it cheap (as long it is clean!), because I am out and about all the time anyways.
Very nice and affordable… that’s what I always look for! Great recommendation. Thanks for sharing and happy travels 🙂
I love how your picture help tell the story. You included maps too – fantastic. Your use of sliders helped keep the pictures from over-running the article including self referencing links to the previous leg of the journey. It gave solid, first person advice for a true hidden gem. Bravo.
I’ve never been to Saigon, but I know where I’ll stay when I do. I, too have never slept in a round bed. Added to my list of things to do in my lifetime. 🙂
It seems like a really nice hotel to stay in. Very nice photos as well, and great idea to have the map :).
Nice review! I loved the pictures of the street, brings back many memories!
